Drought, high nutrient requirement and diseases are major limiting factors for rice growth. Unfortunately our target countries lack resources for expensive irrigation, fertilizers and infrastructures for quality seed production, therefore the use of biological technologies and devising new ways of crop management are the most cost-effective ways to circumvent those mentioned limitations.

With the existing large number of backcross lines available, each with desirable trait(s), from the international rice research community, the GSR project aims to breed at least 15 elite cultivars suitable for growth in our target countries.
