Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is a global charity foundation dedicated to enhance healthcare and reduce extreme poverty. The foundation is “driven by the interests and passions of the Gates family” as stated in the Foundation’s principle.
The Green Super Rice project was launched in December 2008 and is coordinated by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
The aim of the first three-year phase of the project is to develop, test and demonstrate at least fifteen new rice varieties for rice farmers in the irrigated and rain-fed areas of the target African and Asian countries. The long-term goal of the project is to benefit at least 20 million resources-poor rice farmers and to boost rice productivity by 20% in the target countries.
